Default Is Now the Time to Trade it In

I was driving my Discovery SE7 down the highway on Thursday and the engine just stopped. I pulled the car over, called AAA and after waiting 30 minutes the car started again. I drove it off the highway and it stopped in the middle of a busy intersection. Some merciful soul pushed me to a gas station and again, 30 minutes later it started. Took it to my mechanic who says it a fuel pump and crank sensor. It is a 2001 with 130,000 miles and I just paid $4000 for 120,000 mile maintanence. Additionally, I recently hit a fire hydrant that suddenly sprotted legs and ran into the middle of the street causing $9000 in damage (insurance company probably should have totaled it).

I am wondering if I should continue to sink money into this car or if I should decide it is the begining of the end and trade it in. I know its somewhat of a crap shoot, but would be interested in hearing what everyone has to say.

Depends on what you want. If you like it, keep it. You have paid for major services, and you know your truck. I know that even if I had to replace the motor, I would keep my Discovery. I love it.

How could you have spent $4000 on a 120K service? Worst case the service would cost you no more then $1000 to $1200 if they really replaced all that should be done.
As for what is going on now, exactly what fault codes do you have?

Fuel pump and crank sensor.

Mike, it appears there was much to be done on Sally (my 2001 Disco SE7). The repairs were as follows:

COMPLAINT: ABS, TC & HDC Lights are on[/b]
CAUSE: 1. RHR ABS Wheel Speed Sensor faulty[/b]
2. FRT & Rear Brake pads & rotors worn below specs[/b]
CORRECTION: Replace RHR wheel speed sensor and FRT & Rear brakes pads & rotors[/b]

PARTS: Wheel Sp Sensor
LABOR: Wheel Sp Sensor

PARTS: Brakes & Rotors
LABOR: Brakes & Rotors

COMPLAINT: LHF Turn Lamp cracked; water ingress[/b]
CAUSE: Same[/b]
CORRECTION: Replace Lamp Assy[/b]

PART:
LABOR:

COMPLAINT: Horn comes on at random
CAUSE: Steering wheel switch came apart
CORRECTION:

So, that in combination with standard service, costs that much. And that was done through a Rover mechanic who had his own shop. Land Rover Service wanted $6000.

If you named your rover you shouldn't get rid of it.

X2 on that. You have already got most of it done. Drop a few more and enjoy. If you sell now, you will lose more than you will spend. With gas prices so high, these things are getting cheaper and cheaper.

Don't break Sally's heart.....

Before you do any work on your truck in the future, check with us and see if the estimate is right, we will probably save you a bundle.
Take care,
