Default O2 sensor removal

I have a 2000 Discovery II with 95K miles. This was a recent purchase and I am tring to do the 90K mile service plus a few extra things that I doubt have been done. I am currently trying to change out the O2 sensors which is pretty straight forward except for the fact that I can't get my fingers on the plug for the drivers side pre-cat sensor. Do you have to drop the Y pipe to gain access? Do you really lose signal power if you splice and solder into the current plug?

I also would like to thank everyone forall of the technical advise given on this forum...very helpful!

easy as pie, how I did was, grab the wire and use a long screw drive gently tug on the wire and push the tang in. what happen to me was the whole connection came down male and female.I unplugged it, plugged in the new one. and pushed the whole connection back up. and snapped it back in place. changing all four? an open end wrench works best to get them out.

My technque was similar.

I simply used a long screwdriver to push the tab and simultaniously lift the complete coupledplug off it's metal holder, then I had plenty of wire slack to disconnect the plug.

Thanks guys! I am doing the engine flush now and will be trying the O2 sensors again after that. I just did the Magnecor wires and Bosch 4's, I didn't remove the upper intake and the job wasn't bad at all...luckily I don't have secondary air.

Okay...just finished the engine flush,cleanedT-body, cleaned IACand put in the seafoam. Had to by-pass the T-body as coolant was leaking on to the valve cover. After all of this and putting in the new O2 sensors the Disco runs like new...no more sumbling idle and very smooth acceleration. Definitly saved money doing it myself instead of taking it to the dealer for the 90K service ($750.00). Plus I had money left over to get a new muffler...I got rid of the resonator and put in a 40 series Flowmaster.
