Default OBD II Scanner $42 from Harbor Freight

I just picked up a cheapo Cen Tech CAN OBDII code reader from Harbor Freight for $42.00. It's nothing fancy, but it stores, reads, clears codes and the price is right. It gets the job done. I think the sale is until May 11th, but I'm not sure.

It's item #98568

Any other reports on the Cen Tech readers? My truck has thrown a code and it is now illegal in california for parts stores to loan or rent the readers. Is it worth the $40 or is a better, more expensive reader worth the extra money? Thanks Phil 99 Discovery I 96k mile running incredibly well, but getting horrific mileage, about 11-12 miles to the gallon for around town driving.

11-12 in the city isint to bad, I get 12-14 in the city but I drive with a really light foot and anticipate the stop lights.
Wal-Mart has a nice one for $100.

I was getting 13 to 14 in town when my daughter was driving it, now my 16 year old boys are driving and the mileage has plummeted, not sure if it is the truck or the drivers.........Phil

I've had excellent luck with my Cen Tech so far. It gives the 4 digit code number and the plain text of the problem so I'm not having to track down cryptic codes. It feels reasonably well made and I have used it on a number of occasions on several different vehicles. With that said I would definitely buy one again and pay the $5.00 for full replacement warranty for two years. If I had the money though I would buy a Scan Gauge II. Far better quality and tons of great features. About $160 from JC Whitney and probably cheaper on Flea bay.
