Default A quick shout out to Harbor Freight

I thought I would put this out there for those who want to get into DIY but do not have serious tools and are worried about the costs involved just getting started...

I finally got both of my cylinder heads off and I must say thank god for harbor freight. If I had to buy tools from Sears I would be screwed. So far these are the tools I have bought to replace the front hub and do the head gaskets:

300 lb. 48" torque wrench: $65
150 lb torque wrench: $15
3/4" drive 24" breaker bar: $19
1/2" drive 35" breaker bar: $12
18 piece metric 1/2" drive impact driver set: $35
3/4" SAE socket set: $19
Impact extension set: $7
wobble extension set: $15
Impact wrench adapter set: $4
Long jointed socket driver (to reach to hard to get bolts): $19
Large 3 legged gear puller: $9
telescopic 15 lb magnet: $4
Oil filter wrench: $3
Bolt extractor kit - Metric (lifesaver) - $19

The total is somewhere under $250

All the tools are made in Taiwan and great quality. Unfortunately for the US asia has become the premier metal forging/manufacturing center of the world. If I would have went to Sears and bought Craftsman it would have cost me easily well over $1000 (I bought 2 3/4" sockets because Sears was close and I paid $20 a piece for them). The big torque wrench alone is over $300. I even tested HF's lifetime warranty when I broke one of the wobble extensions by over torquing a long 3/8" drive with a long breaker bar (completely my fault). They replaced the whole set no receipt no questions asked.

I read somewhere that their torque wrenches are some of the best on the market as far as durability, kinda funny.

I have bought numerous things from HF and have always had great success. Especially if I have to let other people use my tools. I pass them the HF 1/2" VSR Drill ($18.00) and don't worry about it. I bought a portable bandsaw from them a while back and it is better quality than my Milwaukee bandsaw. It was only $65.00 on sale and my Milwaukee was $250. Go figure. Both made in China.

Love Harbor Freight and it's not too far from me. I can spend hours there and I always spend a good amount of $ there when I leave. Rediculously cheap stuff there and I have never had a problem with them (maybe some stuff, but it's so cheap who cares).

Yea, I shop at both HF and Northern Tool depending on which side of town I am on when I need something. I just bought a 34mm 1/2" drive impact socket for $9, Sears didn't stock any 34mm sockets.
