Default OBD Question

The ABS light Just came on my 99 Disco I, but when you drive it, it goes off. Can any OBD reader work on the disco or does it have to be a special one. My friend has an usb obd reader hook to his laptop would this work??Also the brakes feel spongy. thats why I want to see what the code is.
thanks

The Disco 1 ABS light stays on until it reads a speed signal after driving off. Its perfectly normal behaviour

No you cannot read ABS codes with a OBD scanner.
Flush your brake fluid and that should make the spongyness go away.

Might not be related, but on some vehicles, when the battery gets low, a number of power-consuming accessories are affected and the ABS and Inflatable restraint warnings come on in my Disco. When my alternator was giving me fits, I would see it some times.
