obx bound will i get stuck in the sand?

cdl is nice but not needed on sand. I have been on many different types of sand up and down the east coast high desert costa rico wit and without cdl. air down based on sand some sand loose dry deep sand you may need to go as low as 10psi hard pack sand with a "track" i.e. daytona beach you can run 30psi. the more you drive the easier it gets. I have been on OBX alot I have never needed to go below 15psi. have fun be careful bring a shovel, a tow strap a few d-rings for attaching the tow straps not just for you but for them as well also this time of year a CB might come in handy.

You know what I ment, a limo could have driven down that back country road. When people talk about sand they mean at the beach with dunes and stuck vehicles.

A limo? I guess that explains all the jeeps I passed. There was also deep soft sand that I did not slow down long enough to take any pictures of but, the rover struggled. On a side note the mosquito's are ridiculous on that island.

I think he's referring to the fact you can see your tread pattern in the sand, which isn't the case with soft sand, soft sand just falls over the track.

Lol, both pictures make me feel alot better. My d2 is a 2001, and i went up a size bigger to 265 70 r16's. All terrains. I don't have a cdl but I would to have the conversion kit. Atlantic british or roverlandparts don't have it.

94svt50, were you allowed to drive out to cape point? Or did you venture over to ocracoke and drive out one of the ramps to the beach? Thats where I would to take it, and I've seen avalanches, xterras, jeep to libertys... those are nice 4x4s but they are no rover

You can buy a used DI or DII linkage, or the ashcroft kit from a few vendors. RN has it cheapest @ Rovers North - The Source for Classic Land Rover Parts - CENTER DIFF LOCKING KIT DISCOVERY II

You can take a wrench with you and engage the CDL while you are out there to see the difference.

This is deep sand, if you were to stand in it your shoe would sink and be covered in sand.


I'm at 40psi, CDL locked in lo, transmission in 2nd gear, rev's around 3,000, a/c on, 90* day, a friend and 3 kids in the truck.
