Default Oct 28th 2014 Averhauling The Top Disco II.

155.000 miles 2002 Discovery
Head gasket failure on # 7 ......water on # 8 but the gasket held there ..only on #7 was a visible failure in the gasket....Machined the heads. Changed the gears in the oil pump and front cover gasket with new chain ,new fan clutch , gaskets , seals, belts, pulleys and also the power steering pump etc. The pistons have been with Marvel Mystery Oil for the Past 8 Month...Do you think the rings are fine at this point , or should I change them? I removed the Oil sun, everything look good down there..but this is my first time ...need your help please.
THIS IS THE VERY IMPORTANT QUESION PLEASE :
Would you.... or is it advisable to change the Piston Rings, Bearings, and I'm only Deglazing_Block-on ...any comments or suggestions... This is Head gasket failure number two.
Much Much Oblige
and then some...

so the short block is still together (piston and crank are in the block, havent been removed)
just put it together then.
if you get into they lower-end piston, rings, bearings, you will have to cut the crank replace all the rod and main bolts, where do you stop.
if you short block is together just throw the heads on it.

That rust looks a bit much to me, are the affected cylinder walls corroded to the point where there is visible pitting of the walls after clean up? if so it it were my motor I would drop the pan remove the two pistons and check condition of the pistons and rings and replace if necessary, and hone the cylinders with a quality ball hone. Bearing shells, while ideally should be replaced along with at least a crank polish, can be reused just be sure to replace them in the original positions.

X2. You can probably run it as it is, but it will smoke like crazy. You may be able to get those cylinders to clean up enough with a hone but I would say those cylinders need new rings as well. That's some nasty rust.

Yes if only those two cylinders had water damage its perfectly acceptable to just carefully remove those two pistons and rods for inspection, and there should be enough clearance to hone them with an electric drill and hone attachment. Its not ideal, but acceptable considering the situation.
