I had a FORD that did the exact same thing....turned out to be a mouse nest in the air intake box and some in the MAF sensor....so maybe Spike's acorn comment isn't so far off ?
Admittedly the gas in the tank is probably crap but IMOP if the fuel were really bad it wouldn't start at all. good luck

Default problem solved

I added about 4 more gallons of gas to dilute any bad gas that might of remained in the tank..removed and cleaned the IAC..after this jeep would fire up and i could give it enough gas to get to 3k RPMs..but it would die around 3K every time right on que..got to thinking it seems like something electronic causing this..plugged the VTSS module back in...fires up..runs great now. I have no idea why it would run only 3 seconds without the VTSS removed.

yeah seriously! It is a limited so it has a lot of electronics for it's time

already got an offer..but the guy wants to trade me a XJ plus $500 cash..trying to decide if i should do it and put the cash towards the rover lift

finally sold this grand cherokee..after paying HOA fees and putting a new set of tires on my car I should have enough left to buy a 3" lift for the rover!
