Default odometer change

I have a 99' discovery II, and recently the odometer started flashing. I could not find any reason why it would be flashing. Somebody said that it could just be a malfunction and not to worry about it. Well today I noticed that my mileage has changed all of a sudden. I had 107k miles on it and now it has jumped all the way to 171k. The first thing that came to my head was did the dealer I got it from tamper with the mileage to get more out of it or something. Does anybody know if that is even possible with these or have any possible answers. Any help would be appreciated.

107,000 miles = 171,000 kilometers. Your truck is trying to tell you that imperial units suck. Seriously though people have reported the flashing problem before, I forget the reason though. Hold in the trip reset button to switch back to miles.
