Oem or aftermarket parts from AB?
I wouldn't say that is the only advantage... Misalignment of the front cover/oil pump, no CDL, front prop shaft issues to just name a few. The 4.6 seems to be a far less reliable engine than the 4.0l but then again, that's not saying much when compared to other engines by other manufacturers

I think these trucks get a bad rep. from people just complaining about the problems. One thing I will say about a Motronic engine over the GEMS engine is that the D2 either runs, or it doesn't (cranks sensor) and does a good job of spitting out codes for problems. The GEMS will run like crap, and never spit out a code.
I don't think my 4.6L has had any issues with the oil pump... but I did just buy a set of gears from AB, because the price has gone up everywhere else. Just in case. My front propshaft looked fine when I "rebuilt" it, at 120,000+ miles. And I plan on stealing the CDL out of my 99 before I sell it.

Coolant should be changed every two years, not every time you replace the engine.
Or head gaskets every 90k miles!
I don't think the old buick v-8 is that bad but man does Land Rover makes some ****ty gaskets and seals. I never seen a car leak more for any other reason than just because.
Would be cool if the D2 had 300 HP though.

actually the failures for the head gaskets are from the pcv separator getting stuffed and the pressure building till it pops a gasket. Seen the pressure build so high on bosch engines that the intake gasket goes from concave to convex. Also alot of the oil failures on higher mileage vehicles on the 4.6 was from the lack of an engine oil cooler. notice how the 3 and 04 models lack the oil cooler line. You still get the head gasket leaks its not as bad with the newer bosch engines.
