OEM Rover/Alpine Head Unit Question

OEM Rover/Alpine Head Unit Question
I'm installing a Kenwood head unit in place of my factory radio which is the Land Rover / Alpine radio with CD changer under the passenger seat. When removing the factory radio from the dashboard I see what appears to be two (2) antenna wires. One is "normal" size, and the other is smaller.
Assuming the wire with the larger connector is the antenna wire which will go to the Kenwood for AM/FM reception. What is the other smaller wire for?

Thanks, all good thoughts. The system does not have Navigation or Short Wave however. I'm going to see if I can post a picture of the smaller connector, but it is just as you might imagine. A regular, round male plug, just smaller than the standard antenna plug.

Some versions of the stereo system had separate AM and FM ariels.
take a look at the rear side windows where the antennae are located.
at the top where the headliner meets the window is a small button like connector. If you have a wire going to both then one is for AM and the other for FM.
On my 03, which had the Alpine system with no CD changer and no NAV there is only one antenna wire. there are antennae in both rear windows... Only the one on the passenger side has a wire connected to it.
I assume the antenna amplifier in the headliner is designed to pass both AM and FM in my case.
It would be interesting to see if you have two connected antennas and two RF amps.
If so you may have only one hooked up. Is either the AM or FM section weaker than should be?
