Disco Guy,

It's the engine. The tach is good and is reading the engine correctly.

It reoccured last night on my way to see Robert Earl Keen. This time, unfortunatly it did feel more like the tranny skipping around. I could still be wrong though. It started as I turned on the entrance ramp of the freeway and continued until I exited about a half mile up. I had speed and power though both were not being pushed too hard. Once I got off the freeway and continued my trip on slower roads it never made a peep! Everything went smooth. I wonder if I'm having trouble in a higher gear. I've never once even touched the diff lock. I'm not even sure exactly how to use it correctly and I'm much more nervous about checking it out now especially! I'm on a shoestring budget right now so my anxiety level is right at this very moment isabout as high as the Hubble!

But Robert Earl made things good for a while!!!

You need to check the fuel pressure with a gage connected to the fuel rail. Three values-- with key on, but not started-- with engine running at idle--- and when bringing th engine up to 2500rpm, and holding.

Values range from 20 psi to 35 psi. Any less, and you are looking at a fuel pump replacement. The driving problems you mention point to it as a possible cause.
