well $1900 for a new block installed is pretty good. i'm still questioning what a porous block is and how they determined that. just call me skeptical. i had a tick, a miss, exhaust in my coolant, warped cylinders, a bad crank, warped heads, all from overheating i think. and my block was not porous. i'm rebuilding my block, just machining or replacing what needed to be replaced.

i'll ask again, did they pressure test your block?

if you have lost faith in land rover. get the truck fixed and sell it if you can. to own one of these, you either need a little extra money saved up, mechanical know-how, spend extra time learning how to wrench on things you've never wrenched on before or like me a little of all three.

I've never heard of a porous block on these, slipped sleeves yes. If they misdiagnosed you car and changed heads that weren't defective they should refund you for the repair.

When you are running your motor does it bubble out of either tube on the bottom of the coolant reservoir?

I've heard they are porous blocks, which might not be an issue untill they've been over heated a few times.

I have a variant "Ticking" only at idle and have been told it's more than likely a slipping sleeve.. and to just keep driving it.

I'm suprised a sticky for engine noise doesn't exist, unless I'm missing it.

The sleeves can't slip. They are all held in place on the newer engines. The block might have cracked, or it could just be the head gaskets. In either case, more diagnosing is needed to find out exactly what is going on... The ticking is probably from a collapsed piston skirt. Does the ticking go away after you spray the side of the engine with water? Read up: http://robisonservice.blogspot.com/2...-failures.html

man, as i've been rebuilding my engine i've heard so much misinformation about these engines. sleeves can slip, sleeves can't slip...if a sleeve slips you'll see coolant in your oil, some say you won't...you can bore a 4.6 piston, you can't bore a 4.6 piston...the list goes on.

I've read that article and so after getting this post i called them and them my machine shop guy. looks like the article is right. these sleeves can't slip. but they can still let combustion gases get behind them.

how about a ceramic seal to seal that crack in your block.
