Well you can never change the oil to soon or to often.
Here is what I do and what I recommend to everyone who will listen.
I use Mobil 1, you can use any full synthetic that you want.
I change ti every 5,000 miles.
I just changed it at 175,000, so next oil change will be at 180,000.
Everytime there is a "5" or a "0" third spot from the left change the oil, dont worry about the "100's" numbers, just the "5" or "0".
Sometimes you will change it early, sometimes late but as long as you always change it when there is a "5" or a "0" third from the left you will be just fine.
If you use non systhetic oil then you must change it every 3,000 miles. Much harder to keep track of.
Using my method there is no need for a oil change sticker or to write it down.

How many miles on your truck right now?

if i was you, i would change to synthetic now. 10w40 in either mobil 1 or amsoil. i just swapped to the mobil 1 high mileage synthetic. my rig only has 50k and change on the odo but i felt compelled to condition the seals sooner rather then later.

since i will only drive the rover about 10k miles a year or less i will swap the oil twice a year regardless of miles.

like spike said, change it every 5k miles and enjoy the rig.

There's been an interesting thread on DWeb about oil and it's specs, related to the flat lifter engines in the Rovers. If you choose Mobil1 go with the High Mileage type 10W-30 or 10W-40.
