Just my own pet peeves but I don't like any Lucas product period and you won't hear much of anything good from the gurus and nuts over on bob is the oil guy. Most all HDEO oils (0w40, 5w40, 15w40, 15w50 etc) have high TBN because it is required for long drains in a diesel engine.

This starts to get good about 1/3 of the way down.

Basically the more space between the top and bottom numbers the more additives that are added to the oil.
Additives wear out not the base stock, it gets dirty, but it has a infinite life and can be recycled over and over again.

Just a footnote, much in oil additive technology has changed since that was first written, synthetic base stocks require less viscosity index improvers (VIIs, polymers that thicken the base oil) to get the required running viscosity. Many synthetic 10w30, 5w30 and 5w20 oils don't require much if any VIIs and synthetic 5w40s don't require much more than conventional 15w40s. Also in general synthetic oils are a misnomer and most synthetic oils are highly refined dino oil.

I knew some of that and those are all very good points.
I personally think full syn is a waste of money unless you are going to be driving around the world and not going change the oil once during your trip then I would use Royal Purple and keep it full.
These guys who spend then money on the full syn are going to be pissed when my dino lubed engine outlasts theirs.
Its a cost/benefit kinda thing.

I'm doing an oil change tomorrow afternoon in my 04 and i just want to make sure. We're talking about the Rotella T Triple Protection 15w40 right. Because it's marketed as a diesel engine oil.

No it is a heavy duty engine oil that is suitable for both diesel and gas applications. You will notice that oil is rated SM which is the latest gasoline engine spec.

Ok, i failed to mention i've already put it in my 99 d1. i've noticed that it's a little loud at startup for a couple seconds

It is a conventional 15w40 oil so it is fairly thick at start up and hence the valve train racket. As long as it goes away it is fine though. You may want to try rotella 5w40 or mobil 1 0w40 next time especially in winter. Also you may find the rotella does some cleaning and the noises go away in a year or so.
