Oil Cooler Release Rings
We are replacing the radiator on a 2001 Discovery II. To remove the old radiator we have to disconnect the oil and gearbox oil cooler lines. The release rings on the oil cooler and gearbox oil cooler lines where they connect to the coolerwill not release the connection. Does anybody have any tricks on disconnecting these? Thx. Tom.
Lol! When I pulled the radiator in mine when replacing the engine, I couldn't get the lines loose from the transmission or oil coolers either, and I consider myself a pretty smart guy. So....
I left the lines attached to the coolers, unbolted the coolers, and moved them out of the way to pull the radiator. Took a bit longer I'm sure, but didn't lose any fluid!
I got mine off last night but I had to break LR's release rings off and use some I bought at NAPA. LR's plastic isn't stiff enough on most or we wouldn't be talking about them(most likely from aging I figure or poor quality). Some were still a little hard but with the right combination of swear words they'll pop off.
