Oil/Fluid maintenance
Anyone out there know the best motor oil and transfer/diff oil/fluids to use on a Disco w/179K+
I have been using Castrol for years w/no trouble. I'm stationed on an overseas remote assignment and wife wants to service my '97 SD7/Disco. Maintenance records were taken out of glovebox when kid went to college last fall and no one knows what to do and I was wondering about upgrading w/better fluids due to mileage.

I would suggest a high quality synthetic for you transfer and diffs. I use Royal purple.
Engine oil is not that critical, just be sure to change it regularly. The main selling point of synthetics is the extended drain intervals. You can't do that with a Disco. Castrol makes a good conventional oil, you will be fine with that. With that said, I am a distributor for RP and run it everywhere. I love the stuff....

Full synthetic in both diffs and transfer case, 85w-140.
As for the engine, engine oil matters more than gear lube. If you want to save money go cheap on the gear lube and full synthetic in the engine.
Use Mobil 1, you can find it everywhere, 10w-40 is a good all around grade for most people, change it every 5,000 miles and you will be fine.
If you use dino oil then change it every 3,000 miles.
What ever brand you decided to use make sure she uses only that brand and make sure that it is readily available if she ever needs to add between oil changes.
