Oil leak
So i have an oil leak in the front end according to a mechanic that looked at my truck today. he didn't really explain what it was or how dangerous it was to the truck.( he just said it could possibly be seals didn't say which ones??) i have 2 leaks the one in the front and on in the rear that leaks around the o2 sensor in the engine bay. what could be causing the leaks? is it something expensive coming up? i use 15w40 rotella dino.
Valve cover and probably the front main seal. Its not expensive to do. Valve covers, find a 12 point 1/4" drive socket and snug them to 10 ftlb's of torque. If you don't have any idea what I'm saying tell that to your mechanic, they loosen up a lot.
Thanks! i will probably be doing it myself but i do have an idea of what you are talking about. As for the front main seal should i just go ahead and replace it? if so is it hard to do? I was looking at the rave and it kept directing me to different places it started me off with removing the gearbox!! no wonder they get so much labor at a dealer is there an easier way then what the rave wants?

Yes I had quite an oil leak from a valve cover, the bolts had worked loose in the rear corner. I bought a 12-point 1/4" drive deep socket set by SK, think it was about $60 but it's very shiny.
60$?! Its 5.50 at advanced auto for the one! I'm a a cheap ***, who only had was need he needs when it comes to tools; I have a torch, grinder, hammer, and pain medicine

Over the last 5 years, whenever I needed a tool, I bought a good quality one or even a set. It's got to the stage where I now have a really nice tool kit, which means I can do most jobs without runs to the auto store.

It may be worth checking your crankcase breather to ensure it's not blocked and causing an over pressure which inevitably will force oil leaks at the weakest, easiest and most vulnerable points.
Hi ninjaff21 and Dane, hope this helps. Blocked crankcase breathers are a common problem on many vehicles. I'm not suggesting this is your problem but it might be a possible root cause.
