Oil leak probable spots
So I bit the bullet and bought a '04 disco with 216k miles. Drove home fine, but had a noticable smell of oil upon getting out. Had to have a state inspection done, which it promptly failed. For the price, this was expected. Needing new rotors and calipers, fine. Has a power steering leak, but that was pinpointed. The bigger concern is the oil leak. Apparently it was leaking badly because it could not be pinpointed. This is my first car I've tried to work on so that sounds like a big deal to me. I've no idea where to start yet, anyone have suggestions on what I should check?
Thanks in advance!

Get some cardboard go for a drive, at least 20 minutes put the cardboard underneath, wait a 1 to 1.5 hours go take a look. If it is leaking a lot you will get drips, but if you can smell it my bet is valve cover gasket.
Valve cover leaks is a good guess. Start with the PCV mod, that will slow things down a lot - stickies at the top of the forum. Snug down the bolts on the valve covers that you can see. Clean the engine with oven cleaner (let it soak) and a water hose. Go from there.
