oil leak- what's that thingy???
so, after doing a Florida-NY round-trip recently, the Disco has sprung a pretty healthy oil leak. as best as I can trace it, it looks like the leak is coming from the bolty/thingy near the oil filter / front of the sump. no luck with looking in the Rave, maybe I just didn't see it. any leads as to what this is called? does it have it an o-ring that needs replacing? RTV?
thanks...

Photos would probably help, just to make sure we are on the same page. If it were a 2003 or 2004, I'd think you're talking about the bolts where the oil cooler lines are missing, but a 2000 should have the lines hooked up there.... unless you got a new engine or oil pump at some point and a newer one was used?
Can you ID from this part illustration?

no chance it is the previous gasket from the oil filter from your last filter change stuck to the adapter? That would probably cause a river.
I hadn't had that happen in 25 years but recently noticed on my Jeep it stuck to the block.

that part #8 on the list, that was my jetta's problem, id loose a quart of oil in a few days. and you could see it dripping from the filter fast when the engine was running. luckily it was pretty easy to get to and replace and never had a problem sins.

no, the leak is from higher up, like the top of the filter area.
I loosened all of the bolts for the oil filter adapter, but it won't come off. it rotates, but seems like its stuck as in it won't come off. and with the filter adapter in there, I don't want to bust anything. suggestions?
Its not threaded as well?
