Not sure who Tom is, but I watched a video on You Tube where someone did a presentation with 5 or 6 different oil filters for our trucks. Filters were all cut in half to see the inside and filter material used. I came away from that presentation that the WIX was the best filter out of all the filters reviewed. I have been using the WIX filter ever since and have to say I am very pleased. Great product in my opinion. $7.00 at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I'm also using Valvoline Synthetic oil.

I went back to the shop that changed the oil today. Changed the filter (again), and cleaned up the area. It looks now like it is leaking from where the filter housing attaches to the block. It didn't leak there before the oil change, so I'm thinking that the synthetic cleaned away some buildup that was keeping it sealed before. I also noticed a leak around the back of the drivers side valve cover that wasn't leaking previously. I think I'm going to replace the O-ring for the filter housing, and try snugging up the valve cover bolts.
I'm also going to get rid of the synthetic. I found some old receipts from the previous owner in the glove box, and it looks like Land Rover really does put 20W-50 in when it changes the oil. Should I put 20W-50 in, or switch to some 15W-40 Rotella, non-synthetic? Thoughts?

Paul3121,
Please let us know if your O ring swap and snugging up the valve cover screws worked for you. It seems that I have the same problem. Thank you

I did get the O-ring replaced, and it stopped leaking from the filter housing. I tried to snug up the valve cover bolts, and tightened them a little more. Unfortunately, you can only reach the outer ones without removing the intake manifold.
Between those fixes, and switching to the recommended 15w-40 Rotella, the leaks have stopped, or at least are greatly reduced. There's none making it down to the ground now anyway... ;-)
