Oil Light
so a couple weeks ago my oil light came on, so like a good truck owner I checked my oil level and it was perfectly fine so I just kind of shrugged it off. then a few days later it came on and this time my oil was pretty low so I took it to a shop to see if I had a leak and to get my oil changed.. it's been a few weeks and the light still comes and goes and my oil level is always fine when I check it. is there any other reason why the oil light would come on?

that light is an oil pressure light not an oil level light.
you probably have low oil pressure. possibly a broken oil pump gear. clogged pick up or something.....smart money is on the gear

Could put a sandwich adapter and a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the vehicle to check it....
But in order to get to the oil pump gear you have to remove the front cover and in order remove the front cover you have to remove the sump. Once you have the sump pan off you will be able to see the pick up tube and screen. If that checks out, you're headed to the front cover.
Get the front cover off there's a plate that holds the oil pump gear to the front cover with some little screws. You remove that and will likely see an oil pump with a broken outer gear.

replace the 10-40 with 15-40 or 20-50 and see if the light goes out, beyond that you have to install a pressure gauge and get real readings. these truck do not like 10 wt oil "i" would spend $20 on a 5 gallon jug of shell rotella oil and see if the light goes out.

Use only engine oil that contains ZDDP (zinc) which your Rover V8 needs. If you use 15W-40 designed for Diesel service then zinc will already be present. If you decide to go with 20W-50, which is fine for Summer months, then add a bottle of STP Oil Treatment which contains ZDDP.
