oil light comes on briefly in the morning
So I posted about nearing 200 k miles and many suggested replacing the oil pump. Well just recently its been pretty cold out and the oil light will stay on unroll I hit the gas and then go off. Is this a sign that I need a new one?
Am using 10/30 synthetic. I change it every 4-5 k but top it up often. Is it hard to do the oil pump? Where can I get a good one? Thanks mike.
You can buy a good quality oil pump repair kit from British Parts of Utah. If you are mechanical, no, it is not hard, most people replace the timing change if it is over 100,000 miles.
There is also a slight possibility that your oil pressure switch is bad, might be worth doing an oil pressure test before you do anything.
If you have any questions, send me your number and I'll call you.

If you dont hit the throttle how long will the oil light stay on?
What oil filter are you using? Cheap ones dont have a anti drainback valve and you are priming the whole system each and everytime.
In cold weather it is normal for the oil light to stay on a few seconds longer.
Switching to a 5w-motor oil will pump much faster when cold.

It will stay on for 10 seconds or so? Shorter or longer depending on how cold it is. Should I be running 5/30 oil? Also how do I know if I need just the rebuild kit or a whole new pump? Thanks guys.
Stay away from the Frams, they are all junk.
I always recommend a Mobil1-301 or the K&N 3001, both are made by the same company and rate very high on the more recent oil filter surveys.
