Why don't people run genuine oil filters? I always have and they seem to work perfectly.

One last question. Can I change filter without changing oil? Oil is new.

10 seconds is way too long. The fact that it varies with the temperature is indicative of a viscosity problem. Yes, you can change the filter without changing oil (you'll loose the quart or so in the oil filter), but with your symptoms, I'd be changing the oil as well. Might be something else entirely but I'd start there.

Shipping

12 bucks but then ten for shipping is what I found, got a napa gold for less than ten bucks. I figure that's fine since I change every 3k. Maybe I could get a six pack of genuines online but I haven't found a deal yet...

Cause if you cut into a factory filter you will find there is nothing inside writing home about. Most of the better after market filters are far better.

Yes, you can change the filter with out changing your oil, you will probably need an extra quart to to it.

The oil filter you are using is your problem.
Go to NAPA and buy a "Silver" oil filter and your problem will go away.
Next oil change use Shell Rotella 5w-40, use it all year, 5,000 mile oil changes and you'll be more than fine.

FWIW I decided to shell out the extra $$ for a BOSCH DistancePlus filter at my last change and after pulling it apart and comparing it to an old fram and even an OE from a friends shop I was really impressed. The internals, pressure relief valve, etc are all MUCH more beefy inside.

Thats because it is designed for 10-15k oil changes, it does not filter any better than a $6 NAPA oil filter, but will last longer.
I bet you'd be surprised if you cut open a NAPA Silver or Gold oil filter and compared it to the more expensive Bosch.
