Oil light in the dash lighting up occasionally? I need some advice
#12
Mike good news I had a mechanic check out the truck and to my suprise the dipstick was rusted and when i had previously checked the level it looked like it was full but what I was reading was really just rust. The truck was almost bone dry so i filled it up with a new quart and its been much better.

That is not,"QUOTE GOOD NEWS", you will probably have long term issues because some one hasn't maintained the engine. How many quarts of oil did they add? I would suggest you do a quick engine flush and change the oil ASAP. This is not over yet. How many miles since the last oil change and where did the oil go?

I changed the oil myself. Mike
I added mobile synthetic i forget the weight off the top of my head but all around all weather oil. I didnt really have a mechanic I had my dad do it for me. He has had 25+ land rovers everything from an 89 county to 2010 range rover. The engine on my disco is fine. But thanks for the concern. The truck has 56,675 miles on it and I had the oil changed at 55,000 check up at my land rover dealer.

Ha! famous last words. I'm not sure what topping off the oil and having the oil light come on have to do with one another unless you had to add 5 quarts or something.

Dude, that's nuts. I check my oil every fill up and get extremely concerned if anything is out of order.
I can't imagine going until a light comes on for aything...
I also have no idea why anyone uses less than 15-40 on these motors. With so many of these motors having oiling issues, I'd rather get .5mpg less and keep my truck running.
