Default Oil light at idle

I have a 2000 Discovery II SD with 83,000 miles on it. I had the head gaskets replaced at 72,000 miles, the only maintenance it has required besides normal stuff.
The truck runs great and the only problem I have is that when I stop at idle my oil light comes on. If I increase the idle (slightly stepping on gas while stopped) the light goes off. It never comes on when driving.I gave it an oil change today (synthetic Mobil 1) and the light still comes on when stopped. At idle it appears that I am idling at between 700 - 750 RPM's.Any assistance you could give me would be appreciated!

I have the same issue. Have you found out what was causing this?

Thanks

Dave

What type of oil filter do you use?.. Have you replaced it recently?

When you changed oil and started it did it knock until you got
oilpressure?
It must be a loud knock.
If this the case you havemain bearings on the crankwith to much wear, this will make the oil light come on aidle.

If you don't have the knock I would check the oil sender.

Dave,
What year is your truck, how many miles on it and what brand of oil filter do you use?

I use MANN oil filters. It is a 2003 Discovery with 72,000 miles on it. Any thoughts you could offer would be appreciated.

My oil light did that on my last oil change, but quit after a few cranks. I'm still getting some rattle like a diesel at start-up. I think my remedy is to clean the pick-up tube initially, because with the problems you are having, same year truck as mine, I want to make sure everything is clear down there so if problems arise later I can look at the oil pump. It would be a good chance to replace my sump gasket.

Landzu asked about knocking, are you having any at all?
