Default Oil Pan Gasket Leaking

I noticed today that on my Disco that the oil pan gasket is leaking and starting to leak pretty dang good. Was wondering why I was going thro 2-3 quarts of oil a week or even every couple day and could see why now. Needing to do a over-haul on this truck. I think it had a hard life before I acquired her and trying to get her back up to perfection. I noticed right after I got her that the dipstick has been burnt really bad (picture to come). Wanting to know how big of a job and if it can be done without pulling the motor to do a new oil pan gasket. Also if anybody has any other advice on soon to be problems or ways to avoid problems is appreciated. Want to make her back to a brand new one!

Oil pan gasket is pretty easy, raise the truck and support the frame with jack stands.
Let the front axle hang, remove the oil pan.
Wiggle it out from under the truck, clean the pick up screen on the oil pump.
You may need to remove the steering damper, I dont remember.
All in all as long as you have the new gasket on hand its a half day job.

While you have it off, check the pickup screen, and the O ring (item # 30) at the end of the tube. Many use locktight when bolts for pick up tube go back on. Pix of a D1, D2 similar. Attachments drawing from a D2.

How many miles on the engine?
If you are pretty mechanical, you might want to check a couple of the bearings to make sure exactly what sort of issues you may have coming up.
If the engine as been neglected, you may want to seriously look at doing some sort of an engine flush to cut a lot of old baked on oil build up.

Yeah I am pretty mechanical but mostly with GM vehicles. This is a new venture for me. The truck has 81,500 on it now but I'm pretty sure it was neglected. What kinda bearings are you talking about? And how do you do a engine flush?

That engine is a 52 year old Buick 215, easy to work on.

What these 4.6 motors in our Disco are actually a Buick based motor instead of a Ford motor?

Why do you think it is based on a Ford engine?
The 4.6 is the same block as the 3.9 that was used prior to '96.
The LR3 V6 is a Ford Explorer engine, the LR3 V8 is a Jaguar engine.
