Oil Pan, Pick Up & Strainer

Hi Guys,
It's been a while since I've posted. Sorry, sometimes life just steals our time- keeping us from the good stuff. Looks like the LR community is growing.
It's time to show my Disco some love. I'd like to drop the oil pan, check the pickup tube and clean the strainer.
I read the Rave content and searched the LR forum- It sounds straight forward. If anyone has input, suggestions or advise to make the project go better it will be appreciated?
Looks like:
Remove stabilizer
Remove lots of bolts
Drop the pan
Clean everything with mineral spirits and a brillo pad
Remove intake tube, or just check for tight?
Clean the intake strainer
Apply sealant to front
Dry install a new gasket
Reinstall lots of bolts.
Any recommendations for sealant and or application?
Should I use Loctite on the bolts?
Any other projects I should consider while I have the pan off?
Appreciated,
Michael Wm Gould

You will have to loosen the tranmission oil cooler lines that are bolted up near the PAS pump as the lines need to move slightly out of the way to reach some bolts. Take care when you remove the crossmember and don't be surprised if you break a couple of the bolts. You also need some thread sealer and rtv. I used the factory oil pan gasket and had luck with that. I know some people use RTV but that sounds like a pain. Remove the entire pickup strainer and tube and soak it in gasoline overnight to clean it.

OK- It's president's day weekend and I'm finally getting the time to pull the oil pan.
Getting the Steering Stabilizer bar off was a breeze.
Removing the plastic skid plate was a slight challenge. I had to lift the frame on the front passenger side of the truck to purchase enough room to finagle the plate out. I expect the re-install to be more difficult. We'll see...
Freeing the brackets for the transmission cooling lines was minor.
Pulling the oil pan was relatively simple. Lots of bolts (noting a few are different lengths)! Some were very tight and others just finger tight. Freeing the oil pan from it's home required a little acrobatics as the transmission cooling lines impair a straight down drop. No big effort.
After pulling the pan I found this plug smashed into the accompanying hole like a taco. It obviously was not doing it's job that way. Additionally, the rubber is hardened and cracking. Three questions.
1. What is this called (can't get my rave file to open)?
2. Is it a special LR part or can I pick one up at a local auto part store?
3. Is this the correct plug for the hole? The plug on the other side is cone shaped and the hole seems to be similar in size. The bad one is flat and I've tried to reset it in the hole. Doesn't seem possible (too large). Which is likely why it was taco-ed in.
??? how do I attach an image to a reply post ???
