Default Oil pump fun~

My 03 is at a shop with a mechanic who is not completely familiar with land rovers. I had a suspected oil pump failure, but everything looks intact yet.

He started it today with a oil pump gauge monitoring the pressure, it started out fine at 50 then dropped to under 10.

I would think if it was a oil pump failure there wouldn't be any pressure to start?

I might have to trailer it down to the land rover dealer about a hour away from me, big $$

What oil are you using and when was it last changed?
What weight of oil?
Brand?
Full synthetic or dino juice?

That oil is to thin for these engines in the summer time, especially pulling a trailer.
A couple of things come to mind, the oil pump is weak and when the oil gets hot it gets thin and it is getting so thin the oil pump cant pump it fast enough to get good psi.
8 psi and the oil light will come on.
You may have sped up the wear of your engine by using this oil and towing loads, maybe not, like I said I'm just spit balling here.
It has been my personal experience that if the oil used is to thin once hot you can have oil psi problems, I had a Chevy that the oil light would come on at stop lights if I used 5w-30 when the engine was hot, increase rpm and oil light went out.
Switched to a thicker oil and no more problems.
I had a friend with a LincolnTowncar and had the same problem.

Here is what I would try before you drop serious $$$.
Have him change the oil and use a 10w-40 motor oil and then check the oil psi.
Let us know what he finds.

Does it ever get up to 90 in Wisconsin? I'm guessing it does. That means -30 is too light.

May not be your problem, and it may be your problem but no longer a simple solution. But you need to stop putting that stuff in your Rover during the summer.
