oil pump replacement/additional work
I am having the oil pump on my 2003 discovery replaced under warranty...before detonation!!! (low oil pressure when idling) what other things should i get replaced when this is being done, and would they have to replace the rear engine seal when they replace the oil pump, or is it just the front cover not the sump etc...thanks
I suspect that the low oil pressure is not caused by the pump, but that is besides the point. Just make sure that the problem is completly fixed before the truck goes off the warranty. Maybe the pump wearing out is a common problem on the Rover V8 that I don't know about. How many miles on your disco?
The oil pump is on the front side of the engine, on the crankshaft, and they will have to pull the oil pan as well in order to remove the oil pick-up from the pump. I assume that the front seal will be automatically replaced, but if they are willing to do it for free/part-cost-onlyhave themreplace the water pump and the serpentine belt as well. Make sure they seal the oil pan and the pump well (check forseepage a few days later). That is all I can think off...

aparently 03's are prone to oil pump failure so i am heading any possible problems off at the pass while i can. i have 50k mls with no significant problems..all the work is covered under the extended warrantyand its being done at a reputableLR dealership.
