Missing part...
I'm doing a rebuild on the ole 4.6. Disassembled the oil pump yesterday in order to clean and inspect, pulled the bypass and relief plugs, removed the springs, found the relief valve, didn't find a bypass valve.... Check the attached screenshot, that's what is missing.
What I'm hoping is that someone has a picture of one so I know what I'm looking for when I go to scour the abyss of my workshop.
What does it look like? What is it made of?
Thank you all in advance!

The reason I ask is that in order to get the cap off that port, I needed to send a thin flexible screwdriver through the back end of the port to push the cap out. I didn't encounter anything but a spring in that hole, and when it finally came loose, it did so in a hurry and the cap and spring flew out the other end. My above question may seem silly, but I am seriously asking if anyone understands this system, and would know the effect or reason for having no valve in that port.
Still needing info, as the project is on hold.

So this part was missing from your oil pump assembly?
Did it come like that from factory or you think over the years someone messed with it
