Default Oil question

Can I use castrol syntec edge on my disco 2? Can't find rotella in Taiwan and Mobil costs twice as much. Thanks in advance. I looked at its specs but doesn't anything about meeting acea a1 b1 requirements. It did sayAPI sm sn and sl. Would any synthetic oil do?

Castrol would be fine, and you could use 10W40 or 20W50 if available. Rotella is a diesel truck oil, and I'm sure you could find something equal that is used by the big trucks in your area. The plus of the diesel truck oils is that they have more cleaning capability, and are formulated to keep soot in suspension so the filter can trap it. Castrol has a similar product, Castrol Hypuron 15W-40, which should also be available in your area. Would not use 10W30.

However, the real plus is to change the oil every 5000 miles or less, none of this 25,000 miles oil change practice. Here's pix of rockers at close to 190,000 miles, on a steady diet of Castrol and then Rotella. And some others that were using a different interval.

Also see oil write up in our tech section, it details a jumbo oil filter that can slightly boost oil pressure and adds capacity to the oil system. See https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...estions-46975/ - you would be able to buy the filter as MANN, as well as Purolator.
