Default oil separator

I was trying to pull out the oil separator, which is on top of the passenger side valve cover towards the back, correct? and it doesn't seem to budge. I'm afraid to pull any harder and break it. Does it take a lot to pull it out? I don't see how the hose could be sucking anything from the hole that the oil separator is in, because it looks like it's completely closed off...

YES ! That thing is very fragile......too fragile for where it goes an what it does and the fact that we're supposed to clean it now and then. I've broken mine a couple of times before I gave up and took a piece of window screen rolled and wadded it into the hole just enough to stop the oil but not the flow of air.......I've thought that someday I would plug that hole, drill another one in the valve cover and use a rubber grommet and a normal pcv valve.......someday
