Default Oil Separator? Apparently I dont have one.

So I went to replace my "oil separator" today and took about an hour to get the old one out. It came out in 4 pieces. So I call the Dealer to see if they have a new one. The guy says the Disco II's don't have an oil separator. I described the part and he says it's called a "baffle". I was going to be a smart-*** and direct him to the RAVE manual which clearly shows it is an "oil separator" and not a "baffle". Anyway, he tells me the "baffle" is $8 and change, but he doesn't have one in stock. They come in a pack of 10 so I would need to buy all 10 for him to order it. I hate the dealer.

Just a word to let folks know that this little piece needs to be cleaned or replaced periodically or it can lead to bad things. I can honestly say I have never replaced mine, so I bet it's original and never been cleaned in 120k miles. Shame on me....

You should know by now that you can't count on the dealer for anything. Contact roversnorth, atlantic british, will tillery, etc. if you need a part.

If you have a local Carquest, check there. At least the Carquest here can order from WorldPac, which stocks them. (and you can buy them individually, 1 day delivery, and usually no freight charge)

It's similar to the pcv valve. It's located on the passenger side valve cover. Remove the hose connecting the intake to the valve cover and the oil separator is in the tube.

Your Uncle Spike highly recommends cleaning the oil separator no less than once a year, more than twice a year is over kill unless you have a problem.
