Default Oily substance under power steering pump/lines

Hi all,

I was under the car changing the oil the other day and noticed a bunch of something oily under where the power steering pump and lines are located. There was no discernible volume of power steering fluid missing from the reservoir and I have not noticed any abnormal noises when turning the steering wheel. No discernible crankshaft oil or coolant loss either.

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea about what I saw and why it would be there. Just an FYI I changed my crankshaft sensor a few weeks ago because it failed and I stalled on the highway...

Thanks in advance.

Disco 2 120K miles.

Which oil or fluid is getting low? Looks like power steering to me especially the hose that have a jacket is wet. Recent leak still clean. When was the last time you added steering fluid? Is it to MAX or LOW level?

It's hard to tell. Some pics looks like oil, some look like antifreeze.

Pick up a can of brake cleaner. Spray clean the entire area of all that grime. Then, monitor for leaks in following days.

No oil or fluid levels are low. i'll double check the power steering tomorrow but it looked like it was at the max level. i'll also clean it off and get back to you guys.

Thanks!

One or both of the power steering lines on my truck have been "wet" with what I assume is power steering fluid for quite some time yet, like the original poster, the fluid in the PS reservoir has not gone down. As long as the leak is that slow I'm not going to worry about it.
