Is it ok to drive the 3 amigos
IM looking at a discoII for sale with the amigos a blazen.Being the truck is awd the need for trac control and ABS is not important. Can i just dissconnect the system or just drive around with the three buddies.Im old school from the 70's we never had all that abs crap plus all cars were rwd
it depends on what is causing them. mine came on and i determined it to be one wheel speed sensor. my odometer is accurate compared with my gps and after a week of ignoring them they went away and havent been back for 3 months. on the other hand it could be something like a wheel bearing; which i wouldnt want to keep driving on..
I drove around with them for a year before fixing the issue. Most of the time its not very hard to fix. I would say though having the anti-lock brakes functioning fully is a plus haha.
I believe I read somewhere with those three lights all three systems function at a reduced capacity. The only real problem I see with leaving them on is they can be a warning to a bad wheel hub (my case).
Getting the codes read will narrow it down and perhaps away from that. Three ways to do that because the ABS computer requires a special reader. Pay the dealer $100 for a one time read, Buy the specific reader for that computer (ABS Amigo)-$200 but you can read those codes over and over with it or rent an ABS Amigo from someone on the forum. There are several that do it but none come to mind right now sorry.
Hope something in there answered you're question and while you're at it take a look through the stickies at the top of the post list. Tons of info on how to fix this a lot of other important things to know when shopping around for a Disco.
Good luck-Ryan

Great info..Thankyou
I also had the 3 amigos pop up yesterday however when I got home and turned off the Truck then started him up again they were gone.
I am going to go through the checks I can do without the scan. My thinking is either a bad sensor or dirty brakes because I have been hearing a squeak coming from the front when I am breaking (I just went through safety check and passed so the breaks aren't low). If I don't find anything this weekend and they pop up again, then I'll start looking into buy or borrowing an Amigo scanner. I know it's $125 a scan at the stealership but do the 3 Amigo's pop up regularly enough to make buying one worthwhile?
