Are OME crap shocks?
I have a set of OME shocks with a verified 60K miles on them and they have no rebound. I can easily depress them and it will take at least a day(maybe more) for it to rebound.
My mechanic has a set, not sure of the mileage, and I depressed one of his and it never came back.
Whats the deal? I had a set of unknown mileage Bilsteins that were a bear to depress and rebounded immediately.
I always thought they were the best, but my mechanic says they are glorified Monroes.
Any similar experiences?

How many miles do you have on your springs?
Shocks will crap faster if you have original stock coil springs.
Years and tonnage take their toll and stock D2's have neither on their side at this point. I personally killed a set of Bilsteins in 10k when I put them on my sagging stock springs at 120k. Ride was great at first, then quickly turned to crap.
If you gotta upgrade the shocks, consider upgrading your springs as well.

IMO there are very few good shocks that take big punishment. KYB being the largest manufacturer and their top end are good, equally Koni and Bilstein are top makes and performers particularly the top end re-valve type that can be stripped and rebuilt by specialist pros, but they ain't cheap. The rest are personal choice on the mass produced market place. In shocks you only get what you pay for!

Only gas shocks rebound (OME are gas shocks), but it isn't really a design feature. The gas is there to help keep the fluid under pressure, so that is bubbles or foams less. A side affect is the rebound. The shocks probably still work ok, they just won't stand up to continuous heavy duty use if the nitrogen is missing now. The bubbles created from heavy use will degrade the performance.
