opinions on buying disco 2
Hey guys, been lurking this site for years now while i made the decision wether or not i wanted to plunge to the rover world. I come from background of 4Runners, Land Cruisers Wranglers and F250s, but alway loved the look of the D2.
Anyway, i found one for sale that seems in good shape and wanted to get some input from the experts. any opinions? too expensive? anything i should ask the guy when i see it this weekend? thanks!

Well, it has all of the goodies you'd want to put on it already installed. Its the cool year. Its clean.
I see it had its 140k engine swapped with a 70k engine. The engine is going to be the potential problem. 12k is pretty steep in my mind even with all the cool stuff added on. In the end it all comes down to your budget and your handiness with a wrench.

looks nice. I don't think $12,500 is a bad deal for how nice it looks. you can get a new-used drive seat bottom and hopefully clean the steering wheel up a bit. otherwise, buy it, install the recommend mods (pvc mod, inline thermostat, buy an UltraGauge), do a tune-up and replace all fluids and you should be decently good to go. I'd offer $10k or $11k and see what happens. it helps to have cash in hand or quick access to cash to make that kind of offer work.

I bought mine with heads done 20K prior, according to the PO.the head gasket on the driver rear started seeping within 2 months. drove it a few thousand miles and had them replaced before it got hot out.
OP, Head gaskets are just routine maintenance on these things every 50k-100k miles depending on how well you maintain it, so budget $2-3K for a shop to do it, or around $1K for you to do it yourself. even when done right, they can still go bad.
Thanks all, yeah i think by now i have an idea of what im getting into lol. budgeting a lot for maintenance. just cant get these rigs out of my head so i need to dive into one to get a taste. I'll let ya'll know how it goes, looking at it tomorrow.
welcome to the fold. 🙋🏼♂️ It looks like a good truck. You’ll definitely enjoy it!
