Default Option B question

I'm performing Option B on the Wabco ABS today due to the 3 Amigos.

Quick question: Reading the instructions from the sticky it looks like I do not have to remove the Modulator to be able to remove the Shuttle Valve.

Can someone please confirm this.

Thanks,

Default Option B

Yes it can be done. I did it about 4 years ago. You will need to be Very careful not to break any of the tubing. I used a short piece of 2 X 4 to support the modulator and then worked from there. The trickiest part is finding a good spot to slowly pry up the modulator. If you are careful and take your time you should have no issues. Good luck.

Thanks, I just did a quick check before going to buy the necessary wires and connectors. It looked like there were 2 YG wires in the harness going to the Wabco. How do I know which one to cut and solder to my new wire?

DiscoTanB is correct; you don't have to remove the modulator or disconnect any of the brake lines. And as he said, I used a small 2x4 block to prop up the modulator body.

Others have also advised to use a 1/4" drive, hex socket to remove the screws holding the shuttle valve assembly on the body of the modulator, instead of a conventional L-shaped hex wrench. Makes the job a little less tedious.

As for the wiring, there should be only one YG wire in that bundle. Perhaps you can take a pic of what you're seeing and share it here (or text it to me).

keninnc, have you watched the YouTube video that has the step-by-step process? If not I would highly recommend you do. Saved a world of angst for me.

Just speaking from experience here. I was going to do the Option B but before I did I installed a new WABCO shuttle valve switch ($60) just to see if it would solve my 3 amigos without hacking into the wiring. Well, it did get rid of my 3 amigos and everything is working properly so far.

Not telling you not to do the Option B but just replacing the part that was malfunctioning worked fine for me. The wiring inside the switch had almost completely disintegrated. NOW, there may be more wires falling apart inside the box but until it turns on the 3 amigos I am not going to worry about it.

Great! And the switches passed the resistance tests?

Yes, and it was nice to get the same readings that were on the instructions before doing the re-install
