Ordered Full Length ABS Sensor, Got Stock Replacement.
I ordered the full length ABS sensor (front driver side)to replace the one that gotdinged and damaged by the back of a broken wheel stud. Instead of getting the full length one that needs to be hardwired into the computer, which was recommended by posts on this forum, they sent me the stock plug in replacement. My questions:
1.) Is the longer one necessary? I don't use my truck for any seriuos off-roading so that is the only reason why I can see that the longer one would be necessary (for longer wheel travel)
2.) Should I just return this one, ball them out for shipping the wrong item, and WAIT for the replacement?
Thanks

Yes, return it and get the one you expected. The reason for the change is that extra connector is a possible cause for the 3 amigos showing up. I had the driver front replaced too, but didn't think to ask Cerrone's to include some extra length when I drop the 2" for the 3" and quick disconnects for the sway bar. They might have done it, I just haven't looked.
I see, so the reason for the technical service bulletin is because of a problem with the plug in connection to the wiring harness (what you refered to as the "extra connector") and that is why it is recomended to wire strait to the SLABS ECU?
On the 03 & 04 models, the full length is the approved repair. It has to do with wire impedence values and sensitivity of the SLABS ECU coding. It is a pain to change, unfortunately. In addition, you still need to visit the dealer or a shop that has the diagnostics hardware to reset your codes, after R&R.
On the older DIIs, I have used the old sensor with the plug that sits on the inner fender well, with no issues.
I wish I had the reprogramming tools to remap the SLABS ECU. Its problems come from trying to perform too many functions (Hill decent, differential lock substitute, traction control and ABS), using an anemic processor.
