I've had stock cooling in 110+ temps, in Death Valley. It provided acceptable performance then, but I'd never try that while towing anything.
As an FYI, almost nothing in my cooling loop is stock anymore, save a few hoses, as I have an Alisport radiator, Cars4x4 coolant tank, Flowmaster water pump, and Extinct's inline mod.
But I tow, and I want to tow in the heat of Summer, so my cooling is overkill.
The vast majority of people could get by with stock towing, with the caveat that a reliable method to check coolant temp is required.
how do you like the allisport radiator? I have the inline mod, flowkooler water pump, and gm radiator fan and fan clutch with a new nissens radiator. With my disco on 35s, regeared, 4in lift, metal bumper and armor I see temps in the 195 range at 70 mph on the highway. Going uphill it’ll get to around 210

My issue with cooling right now, is that it is too effective. I'll get low temp warning lights, and it's only in the 50s.
The issue is, the coolant floods the engine and it doesn't get to temp fast enough to not get the warnings. I'm working on a method to heat the system up faster, maybe by restricting airflow in the beginning.
I can't imagine what will happen, right now, when it is actually cold.
On flat, I'm at 180 (thermostat temp) most of the time, it may creep up to 185. Hills, I can hit 210, but that was a hot day on the way to Las Vegas, and the transmission was straining. I had to take out wheel spacers, and haven't done a long run since then.

Perhaps a higher temp tstat?

I need to pick up that radiator. Thanks for the info

I would agree with trying a higher temp t-stat.
