Kenlowe cooling fan
Hello all,
I am looking into mounting a large Kenlowe electric fan on my rad to assist my discovery in dealing with summer camper pulling.
I have a 1999 Disco 1, 4 Ltr. V-8 Auto.
I know that my Rover has an electric fan already, probably quite small and not very heavy duty.
As mentioned before, my clutch fan kicks in while on long inclines. This robs power from the engine right away.
Any suggestions about this possible project would be appreciated. Ie: size of fan etc.
Tony

if you're hell bent on replacing the clutch-drive fan with an electric one, I would just measure it up and get something that is the same size that will mount up nicely in the shroud.
What I would be concerned about, mainly from my own ignorance IS...how tempermental the electrical system in that rig is going to be about putting the load of an electric fan on it...who knows, it might be a non-issue.

The electric fan that is already mounted is for the A/C and aux cooling, like in a overheat situation.
I have been told but cannot confirm or deny that electric fans do not work as well.
When climbing a big hill turn the A/C off and leave the windoes up.
Downshift to 3rd gear if you are not already in 3rd.
Your clutch fan is kicking in so that sounds like it is working OK.
So your other option is to replace your thermostat with a cold one for the summer and then go back to the factory temp t-stat for the winter.
When I drove truck we would remove the t-stat from the truck for the summer and then put it back for the winter.
Also do a cooling system flush to make sure that the radiator is not partially clogged.
And rinse the fins with the garden hose, dust, pollen, leaves etc. get stuck on/in the radiator fins and then it does not cool as well.
