Outfitting for Mexico beach trip
Guys/Gals.
hope everyone is well, I've been away for a bit due to getting a bmw r1150gs. Its F-ng awesome.
However, I went on a trip this past weekend with some friends to a favorite off-road spot down in mexico.
One guy on the trip is a hard-core jeeper, and a total tech nerd. Photos/drone video can be found at: Where in the world is Matus?
Anyway, the disco is coming down there when we go back in May for some sea breeze, and I need some help for a basic outfitting and some repairs.
1) my damn H/L shifter cable is stuck. Any common bugs with those? Haven't used low in probably 6 months.
2) Wheels and tires - I bought this thing with the 18" RR wheels on it, which the PO had installed. They look fine for scottsdale, but won't ride in the sand. I've read that BMW wheels will fit, but was hoping someone knows the offset for these strange 5x120mm wheels we have. I want cheap, they will get some off-road tires and get stacked in the garage for trips like this.
2a) Tires - the sand down there goes from hard packed to shin deep soft fluff. last two trips have had pickup trucks on them with basically stock setups, and BFG all-terrains. Air down to 15 PSI and no issues. Anyone want to weigh in on sand/road tires?
3) cooling - I have the inline therm mod, and fresh coolant reservoir. Last trip, the Heep was running hot due to soft sand, so maybe put in a 170 deg thermostat? It'll be in the 80's-90's during the day and that sand makes the engine work....
4) Light bar - will be adding one of these, somewhere, probably wired to fog lights. Got to witness one this past trip and jesus pete they are bright!
thanks in advance for being a great forum!

You could get cheap steel rims from rovers north for about $98 a piece the last I checked. As for your hi-lo try to spray some pb blaster up above your tranny case in the vicinity of the hi lo cable and lever area. You can also always remove your center console and get access from above but it's kind of a pain. You have to drill out 13 rivets. Google CDL lucky 8 Ashcroft and you'll find a YouTube video which shows removal of center console. When assembling use self tap screws not rivets in case you need access again. Once you get it freed remember to shift your hi lo every once or twice a month so it doesn't get stuck. Hope this helps.
