Default over heated....

I over heated tonight. what should I do? just came on. do the thermostats usually fail on these? Coolant was squirting out of the overflow (yea, I had a nasty brain fart and opened it...got scalded bad)

Any advice on this over heating? Where should I begin to look? can I test the thermostate in this?

Thanks again!

Steve

Here is what the thermostat looks like.
http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/PEM100990.cfm
Top off the coolant AFTER it has sat all night.
If you are not mechanically inclined I would suggest you take it in and get it looked at b y a shop.
It does not have to be a Rover shop, any auto shop can do it.

Why not just replace the stat a 30 dollar part is so much easier then yanking the heads and paying for machine work in the future..
