Default Over Heating!

Still having over heating issues with a '03 Disco with the 4.0. Originally had a Anit-Freeze leak whith the throttle body gasket. Fixed. Seemed to fix issue for awhile. Have put2 thermastats in the thing and it does not seem to still be working? Engine can be overheating and the bottom radiator tube is cool and top is too hot to touch. Seems the T-Stat is not opening? Or is the Waterpump not pumpiong fluid through the system? Ther are NO Anti-Freeze leaks but you can smell it. Only gets hot in stop and go type traffic.

you may have a blocked radiator, have you flushed the radiator with the top and bottom hoses off? also have you bled air out of the system?

I would take it to a radiator shop and have them run a flow test to find out the cause of the problem.
Don't drive it around until you find the problem or you may drop a sleve, hence the engine.

When I replaced the throttle body basket I completly drained the radiator and system. Flushed the radiator with water and it went through fine and normal. Also Bled the system. That was a trick and a learning experience but got a good bled off.

That T-Stat I'm sure is not opening? That is where I keep going back to. Is there anyway you guy's know to bypass it? Then I'll know it's flowing. I belive it heats up because the water cannot flow through it. Again Hot on top and cool on bottom. Yet with hoses off it flows normal. I have replaced the T-stat but am considering taking one apart to remove the t-stat from the housing. I don't know if I can get the housing back together so it will hold under pressure?

any ideas?

It sounds like you have an air lock in the system, are you getting any heat?

Interesting. Heat has been what I would say is poor. Where would this air lock typically be?

It could be anywhere,it's a pretty large system.Typically you would run the engine with the filler cap removed to let the air escape, this may take a couple of minutes and it might overflow when the bubble finally reaches the top,but it will level out and you may have to add more coolant.Remember to have your heat on "high" to prevent the system from overheating at idle. When the system starts to blow "hot" and your coolant level has leveled out in the rad,you should be out of the woods.

If there were some air trapped, this would not cause one side of the t/stat to be cold though.
