So today i replaced the remaining hoses that were bad, put new plugs, and tested the coolant system pressure. The verdict: SHE LIVES!. No loss of pressure, no more misfire, running like a top. My UltraGauge came in yesterday and she's holding a steady 194 sitting in the driveway, and never broke 197 over 30 miles of mixed driving. Thanks for the support guys. It rolled over 220,000 miles on the way home, hopefully we'll see 250,000.

There you go.
Now crawl under there and make sure there is oil in the transfer case and the diffs to.

Keep calm and carry on.

I'll try and get a video up at some point of the noise also.
Well not much is going to click, but the fact that is goes away at 1500 rpms could just indicate that the speed of the piston stroke overtakes the speed of the slipped liner, so it sort of agitates without hitting top or bottom. Or if it is valve or rocker noise the same could be true. If you have an engine stethoscope or a long screwdriver put it on the valve cover, then slightly below the valve cover on the heads. If it sounds louder in the valve cover it may just be the rockers, and you can pull the valve cover pretty easily then inspect the Rockets, clean the valves, replace a broken spring or whatever. If the sound is coming from the heads then you might also check at the bottom of the engine. What a misery. But if the sound is loud at both the top and bottom of the engine, then it is almost surely a slipped liner. If just at the top, then maybe just a valve . Man, what a sorry state to be chasing that kind of thing down, just hoping for the least bad answer. I sympathize.

On the other hand with 220k I would love to help you forgive it out and be part of land Rover history, or, in the alternative, you have certainly gotten your money's worth and a rebuilt will make the engine good as new. Either way you're a winner.
