Default overheating

I went offloading today and I put my d2 in low range for about 5 minutes and kept the rpm relatively low and then the temp gauge started spiking. I disengaged low range and the needle fell back to normal within a minute or two. Car has been running normal since then. Any idea whats wrong?

I’d say fan clutch, because in low your engine is running higher RPM’s & if the fan clutch isn’t engaging to pull in more air thru the radiator = overheat. Then when back in high it cooled down due to lower RPM’s.

You don’t have your profile filled out or a signature with D2 specs, but on a 99-02 just replace the fan clutch with a hayden 2781/2991. On an 03-04 you’d use the same fan clutch plus a Dorman 620-112 fan blade (03-04 assembly is a one piece design).

I agree with Best4x4 on this , my Disco loves low range. Mine never heats up in low, if temps are good everywhere else the fan clutch is probably the issue.
