Overheating/Coolant issues
Most Disco head gasket failure does not result in milky oil as most head gasket failures leak to the outside. Usually around the water jacket at cylinder #7 & # 8 so the coolant leaks down the back side of the engine. So just because the oil is not milky does not mean your safe. If your loosing coolant out of the reservoir it has to be going some where....same reason why they don't all smoke heavily out of the exhaust.

If your head gasket is leaking wouldn't eventually leak out all of coolant from the system? Or will it be able to hold a low level of coolant in the expansion tank? This is where I get confused. I look at the flow chart in the rave manual and after the manifold pipe my mind starts getting lost lol.

Ok so after looking at the cardboard under the truck today there are no signs of any coolant anywhere, and yet at the same time my coolant level in the expansion tank has dropped around 1/4 of an inch. Also I t noticed that the only place around all my cylinders that has any residue are the ones against the fire wall on both sides. Im assuming that these are 7/8. I need a pressure test asap?
When I got home from work yesterday, I bled the system as per the instructions I found from Disco Mike on here, after putting around 5 litres in, no more would go in and nothing was coming out of the bleeding hole. I carried on as per the instructions still, putting the bleeding screw back in, cap on and then letting the engine idle until warm with the heating turned up full until warm. I proceeded to take the car from where it was parked up to my house about 30min drive. When I got home I popped the bonnet and found coolant leaking from the top of the radiator, it seems to be coming through the screw hole as per the attached pic's, with the engine on it pumps out at quite a rate and their was evidence of leaking from this area before. I hope this is the cause of all my problems and not the head gasket, its annoying as I only had the radiator replaced 6 months ago and about 2 weeks after it was replaced I was left stranded on the beach as one of the hoses hadn't been tied back properly by the mechanics i'd used and had been worn through by the fan!!!

First thing you need to do is flush your cooling system, that coolant looks gross and causes corrosion and blockage.. now can you share with the rest of my gang what brand of radiator you used???? Were very curious. Also if I were you I would replace the radiator and t-stat and flush the system and use green coolant from now on. Also when the vehicle is running the system is pressurized hence it only leaking when running. I would not continue to drive it until you make these repairs.

Jon get the pressure test when you can man. I was leaking at 7 & 8. Your leak may be small to try K Seal this liquid mechanic way is controversial on here but the K Seal is supposed to be better than all the others and easier on the rad. I tried it and it held for about a hour but my leak was worse than yours I believe. Search it on the site, some swear by it. search for kseal all together pulls up many results. Hell I even have a thread on it lol.
