Default Overheating D1

My D1 is overheating. It only happens when I am stopped or going slowly. I can turn the heater on and it will reduce the temperature somewhat. Do you think the radiator needs to be replaced to solve this issue? I have replaced the T-stat and bled coolant to no avail. Seems like clogged radiator could be problem as when air is moving through it at higher speeds there is no problem.

Have you checked your fan clutch? when it is warm it should be really hard to turn (with the motor off). Also, are your electric cooling fans coming on?

Clogged radiators are common due to the small passages. You can pull it off and take it to a shop. I had mine backflushed and flow tested for $50. They even painted it...

Cooling fans are on. Fan clutch was replaced. Only happens when driving slow/stopped and slow speeds.

When removing the radiator, it stays to remove oil cool hoses/tranny. Do these lines have actual engine oil and tranny fluid? if so, how much will leak out when removed from the radiator?

I just hope it isn't a blown head gasket!

Symptom is of a bad fan clutch. If you rev it up while at slow speeds and it goes back down, probably a radiator problem. If you do and it heats up more or stays relatively the same, it is the fan clutch. Maybe try to hit the clutch with a blow drier and see if it locks it up. If you bought an aftermarket one they are almost never as good as the factory unless you bought some sort of commercial grade part.

For those do it yourselfers, do not paint a radiator yourself. Regular spray paint is an insulator and makes it more difficult for the radiator to do it's job. The stuff radiator shops (hopefully) use is a better conductor which will protect the radiator while still allowing it to do it's job.

Yes they do.
You will loose maybe a quart of each.

What is the best way to test for a head gasket leak? Keep an eye on the fluid level in the Res once full? I do not see white smoke or milky oil. Idle is a little rough at startup, as was before and that is it.
