2004 Discovery with a Bank 2 circuit one code thrown. (is this front or rear sensor?)

I ordered the front replacement sensor for the passenger side. When I went to replace it I noticed the connector for the O2 sensor was broken off from the plastic mounting clip.

I replaced the O2 sensor and placed the connector on the outside of the clip, between it and the firewall.

Upon further inspection of the wires, I noticed that one of the wires was bare, no sheath on part of it it. This is one of the four wires coming to the O2 sensor from the engine. The wires are coated in some oil from the valve cover seeping over time.

Two questions:

Where is the start of the wire run for this O2 sensor, how do I get at it to repair / replace the bad wire(s).

And, does anyone know where I can order the connector end that plugs into the O2 sensor?

It did throw the code agian after clearing the code with the new O2 sensor so it's obviously the bare wire.

Is there something else I should be looking for other than the O2 sensor & connector?

When you say "bare" wire, do you mean that no insulation is present? If so, there is a bottled "liquid insulation" sold in the electrical section of places like Home Depot, or electrical supply stores. You coat the bare wire with it and it dries to form insulation. Handy so you don't have to go to the junkyard and cut away parts of a harness and splice it back.

Interesting suggestions but how does the sort of product stand up to a harse environment of oil? Also, the wire may have broke through, but I am not totally sure as of yet as the area of the wire is tucked tight behind the engine - I will have to disconnect some of the secondary air lines to get a better look.

 

I used it for a variety of things, including throttle body injector wires on a GM/Mercrusier stern drive boat used in coastal waters. So salt air and fuel and temps atop the engine were not a problem. Boat was normally run WOT.

 

Does anyone have an idea of where to buy new connectors for the oxygen sensors?

I need the male side that runs directly from the engine to the oxygen sensor on my 2004 Disco.

 

Okay so I think I have located some used connectors for the O2 sensors, being taken from the main wiring harness and shipped.

My question now is if I have a faulty wire for one of the front O2 sensors, will it / can it also cause a MAF code to be tripped?

I put in a brand new MAF sensor last week, made sure all connection after the MAF sensor were tight, no cracks, etc.

I started with just a Bank 2 Circuit 1 code now I have a MAF code also.

I am perplexed and after reading the other threads on this problem and I a little lost on where to go next besides the obvious of fixing the bare wires for the O2 sensor.

Any opinins would be greatly appreciated.
